A wonderful display of confidence and mathematical thinking as our Math team took part in the Regional Finals of the BC Secondary School Math Contest. Created by Thompson Rivers University and Hosted by Okanagan College Kelowna, the contest is part of our Math enrichment program.
Schools from Osoyoos to Salmon Arm sent finalists to this challenging competition, which featured both individual and team events. Students competed in Junior (Grades 8–10) and Senior (Grades 11–12) divisions. Grade 8–10 students all wrote the same contest. Our Grade 9 student, Shepherd D., placed 3rd overall and won a $50 cash prize. In the Grade 8 team event, Daniel and Farbod were part of the top-scoring team and each earned $25.
Following the contest, students competed in a math and logic scavenger hunt across campus. Despite facing Senior students, the Legacy Academy team finished in 3rd place.
The name St. Carlo Acutis Legacy Academy was heard multiple times at the award ceremony, solidifying our name among the high schools in the region. Great job SCALA!
