Engaging Students in Citizenship and Democracy Education

This week as part of our grade 8 citizenship and democracy education program Mrs. Cumberland organized an MLA all-candidates forum for students. Grade 8 students will ask the candidates questions to complete their own research that they will present to grades 2-7 students. This is in preparation for the Student Vote which will be held on Thursday, October 17th. All students in grades 2—8 will be taking part in this exciting initiative supported by CIVIX Canada and Elections BC. Our CIVIX Ambassador Mrs. Cumberland is a strong advocate for increasing civics instruction in the curriculum, mentoring colleagues and providing accessible resources.

Big thanks to the candidates in attendance; Tina Lee – NDP, Amelia Boultbee – BC Conservatives, Bradley Bartsch – BC Green Party, Tracy St. Claire – unaffiliated, Anna Paddon – independent and Roger Harrington – independent.
