Please meet Mrs. Claire Cacchioni, our grade 5 teacher at Holy Cross. Mrs. Cacchioni grew up in northern Ontario where she began her journey in a Catholic school. Attending Catholic school allowed her to strengthen her morals and ethics. She feels blessed to have been given this wonderful opportunity.
Today, she is a student-centered educator who remains passionate about Catholic education. Mrs. Cacchioni obtained a Master of Education in 2023 and a Bachelor in Education in 2008, following the completion of a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1998. Her teaching philosophy centers on fostering an environment where students are creators of knowledge and where she serves as a facilitator in their educational journey. In her classroom, respect is the foundation of an inclusive environment.
More importantly, she believes that every student has a unique set of experiences and perspectives and it is this diversity that enriches our learning environment. Whether through discussions, projects, or collaborative activities, she encourages an atmosphere where students feel empowered to challenge themselves and pursue their passions. She encourages them to take ownership of their learning, by fostering independence, and critical and creative thinking skills.
At the end of the day, she believes that success is measured not just by academic achievement but by the transformation witnessed in students – their confidence, eagerness to learn, and their ability to navigate the world as informed, empathetic, and responsible individuals. She agrees with Pope Francis in that “Education is not about knowing things or taking lessons but about being able to use three lingos: those of the head, the heart, and the hands…..learning so that you can think about what you feel and do, can feel what you think and do, and can do what you feel and think.”
